FUSA is the result of the encounter between Althea Dance Company and the Fondation des États-Unis (FEU). Together, they are creating a socially engaged Franco-American contemporary dance festival. The festival presents a choreographic vocabulary inspired by the crossing of two cultures who meet, nourish each other, and explore together. FUSA, by fostering creativity, promotes and reinforces the friendship between France and the US through movement. The festival offers the selected artists a performance opportunity to freely embody their creative expression.

FUSA takes the form of a biennale: in 2024, it will take place in New York at Lamama Theater, on August 3rd, before returning to Paris in 2025.

Prior to the festival, Althea Dance Company holds its annual contemporary dance workshop – In Motion – designed for semi-professional and professional dancers who wish to develop their technique and creativity. The workshop offers technical classes, partnering classes, repertoire and choreographic sessions; "In Motion 2024" will take place at the New York Center For Creativity and Dance from July 29 till August 2.

Heiva Pasifika NYC, created by Te Ao Mana is a Pacific Island festival and Ori Tahiti competition.  Over 40,000 Pacific Islanders live in New York, yet investment in this community is overlooked.  Some of the values that underlie Polynesian cultures, mana, family, community, and reverence for and a connection to nature, a commitment to protecting our natural resources, can be celebrated by everyone.

The Heiva will connect New York City and surrounding areas to Polynesian artisans and crafters, drummers, musicians, dancers, orators, performance troupes, cultural specialists and professionals.  Polynesians are essentially an untapped wellspring of living knowledge.  It is our desire to further enrich the city’s cultural landscape with the Heiva.  People of all ages are welcome.  The focus is on creating an immersive experience and allowing participants to learn about a culture typically not represented on a large scale in NYC.

Surfacing the values and spiritual foundation of Polynesian Culture will enrich the fabric of New York City.  Participants will walk away with a deeper sense of self and their connection to nature, their surroundings, and the community in which they live.  They will gain a vivid working knowledge of the featured cultures.  A stronger sense of community will be formed as festival attendees engage in the planned activities.  Members of the Polynesian community will gain a larger sense of identity and visibility in New York City and be afforded opportunities to expand their creativity.

Immediately after the 1989 revolution, many Romanians chose not to wait and see what would become of their country. They needed distance. They uprooted themselves and settled in other lands, seeking more than the deprivations of the last decade of communism — the absence of food, warmth, and freedom. Now, 35 years later, while living conditions in Romania have improved, a new absence lingers. The absence of the bodies that have not yet returned. These Romanians send money home, vote, and call us, but their presence is missing in contemporary Romania. This performance is a participatory experience that tells the story of these absent bodies — their searches, joys, pains, and their distance. It is a story that can only be fully told with the presence of these bodies on stage. A story of an untranslatable word that Romanians hold in their hearts. A story about everything we cannot forget.

Theatre Will Not Prepare You For Death is an experimental theater piece based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead. Written by Russian playwright Nika Velt and directed by Olga Lvoff and Elena Che, this production explores themes of loss, transformation, and the quiet strength rooted in family and heritage. It offers a thoughtful reflection on how compassion, love, and a connection to our roots can lead to a deeper sense of peace. The performance features a cast of actors and dancers, incorporating Tibetan masks, throat singing, and an everlasting bowl of koliva.
